I just stumbled on to this movie "BATTLE IN SEATTLE". Haven't heard from it anywhere, maybe because I haven't been looking, but from my point of view, this movie deserves more attention.
It is a fictional story based on the true events of the demonstrations against World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Seattle in 1999. Things went quite badly and people got hurt.
The storyline is nothing special, but I think the matter is very important and the characters are put in the right place, giving atleast a decent look to "both sides", kind of, since the sides fighting in this film are not enemies with each other, as the ending successfully tells us. This is the most important fact in the film: it is not the police force and the activists who should fight each other, or even the politicians and activists, they are just the middle men, and there will always be more of them to fight with.
For some reason I was a bit irritated by the lovestory-subplot, which seemed totally irrelevant, but I guess something like that has to be there always..even though I can't see why..All and all I like the fact that the film is obviously quite low budged, but it contributes to the atmosphere of the film. It is also nice to see the usage of archive material and fictional story, mixed together.
But, a nice film and I am happy that it was made and I saw it!
